Life of the Party is an American college comedy movie. Released in 2018 and directed by Ben Falcone, this movie had average box office success, getting just about $65m worldwide.

In this fun, engaging movie we meet Melissa McCarthy as Deanna. After dropping her daughter Maddie off at her University in Atlanta, Deanna’s husband Dan confesses that he has been seeing another woman and wants a divorce. Heartbroken, Deanna visits her parents who insist this would be a good opportunity to get her youth dreams back on track and finish her University degree, which she had to drop off because she got pregnant with Maddie.

Deanna decides to enroll in her daughter’s University, with her daughter’s doubtful but supportive approval. There, Deanna feels out of place because of her advanced age and her stage fright which causes extreme anxiety during her exams. However, her lively and tenacious personality make it that she does not get too bothered when she is laughed at by some of her younger classmates. She soon gets acquainted with her daughter’s group of friends, becoming “one of the girls” and is persuaded to go to some wild drunken parties. She falls for one of the frat boys she is introduced to and is later shocked when she finds out who he is related to. This is one of the movie’s best moments.

Overall, this movie is fun and lighthearted, without being too deep or interesting. It’s an enjoyable chick flick to enjoy during a quiet weekend where you have nothing else to do. Melissa McCarthy’s performance as Deanna will definitely get a few chuckles out of you.
